Twenty minutes south of Gladstone, the twin towns share a patrolled surf beach, a long foreshore park, river paths and an island you can walk to at low tide.

Tannum Sands
The main beach is backed by a long foreshore park with pavilions, free gas barbecues, beach showers, toilets, a big playground with a flying fox, and paths for bikes and scooters. Stairs lead up to Peter’s Park for a view over the beach.
Millennium Esplanade, Tannum Sands
Beach Arts Music markets bring about 100 stalls, food and live music to the esplanade on the first Saturday of each month from March to December, 2pm to 7pm.

The surf club’s volunteers patrol the beach on weekends in season, and its café and bar serve meals to the public on weekends.

At low tide the creek dries and you can walk about 600m across to the island from the Wild Cattle Creek boat ramp or the southern end of Millennium Esplanade. There are no formed tracks. Plan the walk back for low tide too.

An easy 4.6km return walk from the end of Wild Cattle Creek Road, with mangrove views across to the island. It is a good walk at sunrise or sunset.

A bush park with barbecues, shelters, a spider’s web playground and beach access with showers, plus a bush trail to the Boyne River. Dogs can run off leash on the sand at Canoe Point Beach.

More than 15km of shared paths follow the Boyne River and the coast between the two towns, with sculpture, mosaics and other public art along the way.

A riverside park on Wyndham Avenue with a skate park and pump track, a basketball half court, a boat ramp, a pontoon jetty, toilets and picnic tables. It is also the base for the Boyne Tannum HookUp each May.

About 7km of beach reached only by four-wheel drive from Handley Drive. You need a council permit, and camping is allowed only in the fenced area at the northern end.
