On 20 October between 7-8pm, turn off your lights and help these threatened species find their way! The hour of darkness aims to spread awareness about the negative impact artificial light has on nesting sea turtles and hatchlings. Light from our homes and businesses creates a glow that disorients mother turtles and stops hatchlings from finding their way to the ocean. Only one in a thousand marine hatchlings will make it to adulthood, and all species of marine turtles in Australia are currently threatened with extinction. This is a fantastic example of how many small actions can make a big difference. Use the hashtag #TurtleHour to share your Turtle Hour celebration.
